In April 2023, a stealer log file called ReimannCloud 03-16 appeared on Telegram carrying 3,561 plaintext records belonging to users in the United States. The data included email addresses, raw passwords, and the URLs of every service those users had visited -- giving attackers a ready-made roadmap to the most valueable accounts in each victim's digital life. More than three years later, these credentials are still circulating in underground markets.


Why This Is Dangerous

Stealer logs are not like ordinary data breaches. When a company's database leaks, victims at least have a chance of being notified. Stealer log data is harvested silently from individual devices and distributed through private Telegram channels and dark web forums with no public announcement. The 3,561 people in the ReimannCloud dataset almost certainly recieved no warning at all. By the time a victim discovers their credentials were stolen, those credentials may have already been used to drain bank accounts, hijack email access, or commit identity fraud. The inclusion of URL data makes this breach especially dangerous -- attackers know exactly which financial platforms and cloud services each victim was using.

Why This Matters

U.S. users hold accounts at major financial institutions, e-commerce platforms, and cloud services that translate directly into cash for attackers. Stealer log collections like ReimannCloud are used for credential stuffing campaigns that test stolen email and password pairs against banking apps, retail sites, and investment platforms. Because these passwords were captured in plaintext -- not hashed or encrypted -- attackers do not need to crack anything. They simply paste the credentials and try. Any victim who has not changed their password since April 2023 is definately still at risk, and any account tied to a reused password is exposed regardless of when it was created.


How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Stealer logs are created by infostealer malware that silently infects a victim's device, often through phishing emails, malicious downloads, or compromized software installers. Once installed, the malware sweeps the browser's saved password vault, active session cookies, and browsing history, then packages everything into a log file and transmits it to the attacker. That log is then uploaded to Telegram or dark web forums for sale or free distribution among cybercriminals. Because the compromise happens at the device level, no company database was breached and no company can notify affected users.
