HEROIC analysts identified a Telegram combolist titled MAIL ACCESS in January 2025, containing 1,476 sets of email addresses, plaintext passwords, and linked URLs. This is a small file by dark web standards, but every credential inside was captured in usable, plaintext form, meaning anyone who downloads it can try each login immediately. Why This Is Dangerous: Because the passwords in this file are stored as plaintext rather than hashed or encrypted, an attacker does not need to crack anything. They can copy each email and password pair straight out of the file and attempt to log into email accounts, online stores, or any other site where the same credentials were reused. What Was Exposed: - Email addresses - Plaintext passwords - Associated URLs linked to each account Why This Matters: Even a list of 1,476 records can cause real harm. Attackers run these credentials through automated tools that test them against dozens of popular websites in a technique called credential stuffing. If you have ever reused a password across more than one account, a leak like this can lead directly to account takeover, financial fraud, or identity theft, even if the original site you registered with was never named. How a Combolist Like This Works: A combolist is simply a text file pairing usernames or emails with passwords, often pulled together from older leaks, phishing pages, or malware infections and repackaged for resale or free distribution on platforms like Telegram. Criminals value them because they are ready to use immediately, no cracking or decryption required. Check If You Are Affected: HEROIC's free breach scanner checks your email address against more than 400 billion leaked records, including combolists like this one. Run a scan to see if your credentials were part of this exposure and get guidance on securing any accounts still using the same password.
