SECRET_LOGS: 5,231 Stolen U.S. Credentials Posted Publicly on Telegram

The name "SECRET_LOGS" suggests exclusivity — but the February 23, 2023 upload to Telegram was anything but secret. This stealer log package containing 5,231 U.S. email addresses and plaintext passwords was posted to a public channel, accessible to every subscriber. The branding is ironic: credentials labeled "secret" distributed to the widest possible audience of potential attackers.

SECRET_LOGS Breach Data

  • Records Exposed: 5,231 U.S. credential sets
  • Data Types: Email addresses, plaintext passwords, target login URLs
  • Breach Type: Infostealer malware log
  • Country Affected: United States
  • Date Leaked: February 23, 2023
  • Distribution: Telegram (public channel)

The "Secret" That Isn't

Naming a credential package "SECRET_LOGS" is a branding decision, not a security claim. Telegram-distributed stealer logs are among the least secret forms of credential exposure — posted publicly to channels that may have thousands of subscribers. Once a file is uploaded to a public Telegram channel, it's immediately available to every follower and can be forwarded to other channels, downloaded and reuploaded, or incorporated into aggregated breach databases.

For the 5,231 individuals in this file, the name is irrelevant. What matters is that their email addresses, plaintext passwords, and login URLs have been in the hands of Telegram subscribers since February 2023 — available for use in credential stuffing, account takeover, and targeted phishing campaigns. The "secret" expired the moment the upload completed.

Infostealer Logs and the Public Telegram Marketplace

Telegram has become the primary distribution platform for infostealer credentials. Operators post logs to public channels to build subscriber counts, attract paying customers for premium content, and demonstrate their malware campaign's output. The combination of ease of distribution, large subscriber bases, and minimal moderation makes Telegram particulary effective for this purpose.

Each public upload creates a permanent record of the compromised data for anyone who downloaded it. Unlike breach notifications from companies — which can prompt password resets — Telegram-distributed stealer logs have no notification mechanism. The 5,231 individuals in SECRET_LOGS received no warning. Most will never know their credentials were included in this upload unless they actively search breach databases like HEROIC's.
