In June 2025, a threat actor operating on Telegram uploaded a stealer log bundle called Snakes_folders, exposing 28,233 records belonging primarily to United States-based users. The dataset contained plaintext passwords, email addresses, and URLs collected by malware installed on victims' devices. With over 28,000 records in a single upload, this is one of the larger stealer log breaches targeting American users to emerge in 2025.

Why This Is Dangerous

Stealer logs targeting US users are particularly lucrative for cybercriminals because American accounts are frequently linked to financial services, healthcare portals, and government platforms. The Snakes_folders dataset delivered plaintext passwords, meaning attackers face zero technical barrier to account access. The inclusion of URLs tells criminals exactly which platforms each victim was using, enabling targeted attacks on the highest-value accounts. US-based victims face elevated risk of tax fraud, healthcare identity theft, and financail account takeover.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (site endpoints and API hosts)

Why This Matters

28,233 records is a large and consequential breach. The size of this dataset means it is highly likely to be sold, re-sold, and shared across multiple criminal networks, meaning the number of threat actors with access to your credentials multiplies over time. US-based victims are frequently targeted in follow-on attacks including phishing campaigns, SIM-swapping attempts, and account recovery fraud. The data was uploaed to Telegram in June 2025, giving criminals over a year of unchecked access before broader public awareness.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware typically arrives through phishing emails, malicious software downloads, or fake browser extensions. Once installed, it runs invisibly in the background, capturing login credentials as they are entered, scraping saved passwords from browsers, and harvesting active session tokens. The compiled log files are then uploaded to private Telegram channels where they are traded among criminal networks. The Snakes_folders bundle was one of hundreds of such uploads that occured in the same period, part of a broader wave of stealer log activity targeting US accounts throughout mid-2025.
