HEROIC analysts identified a third database breach tied to SoundCloud from the same period, dated September 6, 2015. This dataset is larger than the other SoundCloud-linked leaks in our records, exposing 3,088 accounts with email addresses paired directly to plaintext passwords.

Why This Is Dangerous

Because these passwords were stored in plaintext, there is no hashing or scrambling to slow an attacker down. Every one of the 3,088 accounts in this leak has a login that works exactly as written, giving an attacker immediate access to the account itself and a strong starting point for testing the same password elsewhere.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords

Why This Matters

Leaked email and password pairs like these circulate quietly among attackers and get fed into automated credential stuffing tools, which test each login against banking sites, email providers, and other platforms at scale. Because this is one of several separate SoundCloud breaches tracked from the same window of time, it is a reminder that a single platform can have multiple distinct points of exposure rather than one clean incident.

How Database Breaches Like This Happen

This incident is classified as a database breach, meaning a set of account records was pulled directly from a backend system. The presence of several distinct SoundCloud-linked datasets from the same era suggests the underlying data has been split, resold, or redistributed multiple times since it was first exposed, which is common as older breach data continues to circulate on forums and marketplaces.

Check If You Are Affected

If you have ever used SoundCloud, or reused a password from around 2015 elsewhere, it is worth checking your exposure across all known breaches. HEROIC's free breach scanner searches a database of more than 400 billion breached records to tell you instantly if your email address has been compromised.
