The STAKE_LOGS Dump Put 4,102 Gaming Platform Credentials on the Dark Web
In November 2023, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to a Telegram channel that specializes in distributing stolen credential data. The file contained 4,102 records linked to STAKE_LOGS, a dataset targeting gaming platform users. The exposed data included email addresses, plaintext passwords, and API endpoint URLs harvested from infected devices and packaged into a single targeted log file. HEROIC first detected this file on November 8, 2023, shortly after it began circulating in underground Telegram channels frequented by cybercriminals.
Why This Is Dangerous
Gaming platform credentials are high-value targets for attackers because accounts often hold stored payment methods, in-game currency, and linked social profiles. The STAKE_LOGS dataset is notable for its specificity, suggesting an organized campaign rather than a random credential sweep. When passwords are leaked in plaintext, attackers can use them immediatley without any decryption effort, dramatically lowering the barrier to account takeover. The presence of API endpoint URLs alongside user credentials means attackers could also automate attacks directly against the gaming platform's backend infrastructure.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- API endpoint URLs
- Platform host identifiers
Why This Matters
Gaming and online gambling platforms increasingly store sensitive financial data alongside user credentials. A breach of this type exposes users not just to account takeover but to potential fraud and unauthorized transactions. The inclusion of API host information is seperate from typical credential leaks and significantly amplifies risk, since attackers can leverage it to probe the platform's infrastructure directly. Credential reuse compounds the damage further: if users recycle the same password across email, banking, or other services, the STAKE_LOGS leak becomes a gateway to far broader compromise.
How Stealer Logs Work
Stealer logs are generated by malware that silently infects a victim's computer or mobile device. Once installed, the malware scans for saved passwords, active browser sessions, stored cookies, and login credentials, then packages everything into a structured file and transmits it back to the attacker. These log files are then sold or freely distributed on Telegram channels and dark web forums. The malware typically arrives through phishing emails, malicious software downloads, or compromised game mods. Victims rarely discover their credentials have been harvested until they appear in a breach database or their accounts are taken over.
Check If You Are Affected
HEROIC's free scanner checks your email against more than 400 billion exposed records, including stealer logs like this one from Telegram. If your credentials appeared in the STAKE_LOGS breach or any other data leak, you will know immediately. Enter your email at HEROIC to run a free scan and find out if your data is at risk.
