HEROIC analysts tracked a stealer log linked to STARLINKCLOUD that was uploaded to a public Telegram channel on October 26, 2023. The file held 10,189 records, each one containing an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of an API host or service the compromised user had been accessing. The data was not taken from a single hacked server. It was harvested directly from infected devices by malware designed to steal credentials before the user ever realizes anything is wrong.

Why the STARLINKCLOUD Log Puts Account Holders at Immediate Risk

The danger here is the combination of data types. An email address alone is not very useful to an attacker. A password alone is even less so. But an email address paired with a plaintext password and the URL of the service it belongs to is essentially a skeleton key. Anyone who downloads this file can log directly into those accounts without any additional effort. If those same credentials were reused on other platforms, the risk multiplies instantly across every service that person touches.

What Was Exposed in the STARLINKCLOUD Stealer Log

  • Email addresses (10,189 records)
  • Plaintext passwords, fully readable with no hashing or encryption
  • API host URLs identifying which services were being accessed
  • Endpoint data from compromised individual devices

Why This Matters: From Stolen Passwords to Identity Fraud

Once a credential set from a stealer log is in the wrong hands, the consequences can spiral quickly. Attackers use automated tools to test stolen credentials across banking sites, email platforms, retail accounts, and corporate login portals. A successfull login to someone's email is especially valuable, because it gives an attacker access to password reset flows for every other account tied to that address. From there, financial fraud, identity theft, and unauthorized access to workplace systems all become straightforward. Victims often do not realize what happend until weeks later when they see unexplained charges or discover their accounts have been locked.

How Stealer Log Malware Collects Credentials

Stealer malware is typically installed on a device through a deceptive download, a phishing email, or a malicious advertisement. Once it is running, it silently searches the device for saved passwords in web browsers, desktop apps, and system credential stores. It collects everything it finds, organizes it into a structured log file, and transmits it to the attacker. That log is then uploaded to platforms like Telegram where it can be downloaded, bought, or shared by anyone with access to the channel. The entire process from infection to credential exposure can take less than a day, and the infected person usually has no idea until the damage is done.
