How Unknown-Format Password Hashes Put Job Seekers at Risk

When a password hashing algorithm is unknown, it is not possible to rule out a weak or broken implementation. Attackers can run the hashes against common cracking tools and quickly determine if the format is MD5, SHA-1, or another accessable algorithm. Recovered passwords tied to employment platform accounts are particularly valuable since users often reuse those credentials on LinkedIn, HR portals, and corporate email systems.
