Tachibanashobo: A Japanese Legal Publisher's User Data Exposed in 2018

In August 2018, Tachibanashobo -- a Japanese publishing house specializd in legal and police-related works -- experienced a data breach affecting 7,452 users. The compromised records contained email addresses and SHA-256 password hashes. The dataset appeared on underground sources on August 21, 2018, the same day as four other platform disclosures across French Polynesia, Hong Kong, Ukraine, and Switzerland. At 7,452 records, Tachibanashobo is the smallest breach in the August 21 cluster. SHA-256 Without Salts: Better Than MD5, Still Crackable

Only long, random, unique passwords that do not appear in any dictionary or wordlist are meaningfully protected by unsalted SHA-256.
