HEROIC analysts identified and verified a stealer log file that was uploaded to Telegram in June 2023. The log exposed 3,838 records associated with United States accounts, each containing an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the login page where those credentials were in use. This type of log is produced by malware that silently harvests credentials from infected devices without any visible signs of compromise.

Why This Telegram Stealer Log Dump Is Dangerous

This log is notable for its size and the completeness of each record. Nearly 3,900 working credential sets were distributed freely to anyone monitoring the relevant Telegram channel. Because each record includes the exact URL tied to each credential, attackers received a ready-made list of working logins with no additional research required.

Free Telegram distributions like this one are particularly harmful because they reach an indiscriminate audience. Paid dark web sales limit exposure to buyers with the means and motivation to purchase. Free distributions face no such barrier, meaning the data was accessible to thousands of threat actors within moments of being posted.

What Was Exposed in the Telegram Stealer Log Dump

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs (login endpoints for each exposed credential)

Why This Matters

Plaintext passwords are the most actionable form of stolen credential. When paired with a matching email address and a specific login URL, each record in this log is a complete, working access package. Attackers can immediately attempt to log in to the listed accounts and then test the same credentials across email providers, banking sites, and social media platforms.

The consequences for affected individuals range from account takeover and unauthorized purchases to identity theft and long-term financial fraud. Even accounts that have since changed their passwords may have experienced unauthorized access in the months between the original leak and discovery.

How Stealer Logs Like This Work

Stealer malware is typically delivered through phishing emails, malicious advertisements, or trojanized applications. Once installed on a device, it operates silently in the background, harvesting credentials from browsers, clipboard data, and autofill stores. The malware transmits this data back to its operator in the form of structured log files.

Telegram has emerged as one of the most common distribution channels for these logs. Criminal actors use it to share stolen data freely as a form of credibility building, community contribution, or advertising for paid services. The logs often circulate through multiple channels before eventually being archived and indexed by breach research organizations like HEROIC.
