In June 2023, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram by an anonymous user. The file contained 4,159 records exposing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs belonging to users of Texture Cloud FREE. The data was captured by malware running silently on victims' devices before being packaged and shared in private Telegram channels. Victims had no way to recieve notice that their credentials had been captured and distributed.

Why This Is Dangerous

Most breaches expose hashed passwords, which at least require attackers to crack them first. This breach is different. Every password in this dataset is plaintext, meaning attackers get a ready-to-use credential the moment they open the file. There is no cracking step, no waiting. Someone with this data can attempt to log into your email, cloud storage, or bank account within seconds of downloading the file. The URLs included in the leak make this worse. They reveal exactly which services the victims were logged into when the malware ran, giving attackers a precise roadmap of where to try each stolen credential first.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords (no cracking required, immediately usable)
  • URLs (revealing which services were actively in use at time of infection)

Why This Matters

People rarely use unique passwords for every service. If your Texture Cloud FREE password is the same one you use for Gmail, Dropbox, or your bank, attackers will try it there too. This technique, called credential stuffing, is automated and fast. Attackers feed stolen email and password pairs into bots that test hundreds of sites simultaneously. A single stealer log like this one can trigger a cascade of account takeovers that extends far beyond the original service. Such breaches have occured with increasing frequency since infostealer malware became widely accessible to low-skill threat actors.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

A stealer log is the output of infostealer malware. These programs infect devices through phishing emails, fake software downloads, or malicious browser extensions. Once installed, they run quietly in the background, harvesting saved passwords, browser cookies, session tokens, and any credentials typed into login forms. The malware then bundles this data into a structured log file and sends it back to the attacker's server. The Texture Cloud FREE log was later uploaded to Telegram, where it circulated among threat actors. Stealers collect the data and Telegram channels serve as the seperate marketplace where that data is shared, sold, or traded among criminal networks.
