Free 2, Three Times Over: Understanding Monster Cloud's Repeating Batch Labels

Monster Cloud's October 2023 distribution campaign is a study in deliberate naming ambiguity. The "Free 2" label appeared on three separate dates -- October 19, October 21, and October 22 -- each time representing a distinct batch with a vastly different record count. The October 19 release, at 2,177 records, was the smallest of the three. By October 21, Free 2 carried 12,244 records. By October 22, the same label contained 41,577 -- more than nineteen times the volume of the opening release. Tracking these batches requires using date as the primary differentiator, since the label alone is insufficiant to uniquely identify any single release.

Monster Cloud Free 2 -- Oct 19, 2023: Stealer Log Summary

  • Records Exposed: 2,177
  • Data Types: Email addresses, plaintext passwords, URLs
  • Breach Type: Stealer log -- credentials harvested from malware-infected endpoints, not a direct database breach
  • Password Type: Plaintext -- captured directly from browser sessions and credential stores by infostealer malware
  • Country: United States
  • Date Leaked: October 19, 2023

The October 19 Starting Point in Monster Cloud's Escalation Arc

Monster Cloud's nine-batch October 19 series -- Free 1 through Free 9 -- established the operator's presence in the credential exposure cluster before the larger events of Oct 21-22. The Free 2 batch on Oct 19 at 2,177 records fits the pattern of the broader series: moderate volume, designed to demonstrate the operator's access to fresh US endpoint credentials without exhausting the inventory. When Monster Cloud returned on October 21 with Free 2 at 12,244 records, the volume jump signaled a shift from teaser to substantive distribution. The October 22 release at 41,577 represents the operator's peak output -- an 1,800% increase over the opening Free 2 batch just three days earlier.

Infostealer Mechanics Behind the Numbers

Each of the 2,177 records in this batch originated from a distinct compromissed endpoint. Infostealer malware -- distributed through phishing campaigns, fake software downloads, and malicious ad networks -- infects devices and silently harvests credentials from browser password managers, autofill databases, and active session cookies. The infected machine's credential store is packaged into a log file and transmitted to the operator's collection infrastructure. Monster Cloud then bundles these individual log files into named batches for Telegram distribution. The plaintext nature of captured passwords means every record is immediately usable for credential stuffing, account takeover, or sale to specialized threat actors targeting specific platforms.

Cross-Operator Context: Monster Cloud Among 15+ Active Operators

Monster Cloud was one of the most active -- but not the only -- operator distributing US credentials during this four-day window. CRYPTON_LOGS posted two batches on October 19 alone, totaling 20,628 records. TOR_LOG released its largest batch on the same day. prdscloud, BananaLogs, GODELESS CLOUD, ANDRIANA CLOUDFREE LOGS, and OTTOMANGIFT were also active, each contributing to what amounted to a concentrated, multi-operator credential marketplace operating openly through Telegram. The collective output across all operators during Oct 19-22 represents tens of thousands of compromized US accounts spanning email, banking, streaming, and enterprise platforms.
