HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to a public Telegram channel on December 20, 2022. The file, shared under the name TokyoCloudFREE, exposed 17,967 records belonging to users in the United States. The data was harvested directly from infected endpoints, capturing login credentials and the web addresses where those credentials were used.

Why This Is Dangerous

When attackers get hold of plaintext passwords tied to real email addresses, they do not need to crack anything. They can log straight into your accounts. If you reuse the same password across multiple sites, a single leak like this one can open the door to your bank, your work email, and your social media all at once. Criminals also bundle stealer logs like this one and sell them on underground markets, meaning your data can spread far beyond the original Telegram post.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (web addresses and API endpoints where credentials were used)

Why This Matters

Stealer logs are a favorite starting point for credential stuffing attacks, where bots automaticaly try stolen username and password combos across hundreds of websites. If your email and password appear in this file, an attacker could take over your accounts, make fraudulent purchaces, or impersonate you to scam people you know. Even if you have changed your password since December 2022, your old credentials may still be circulating and could be used to answer security questions or target accounts you forgot to update.

How Stealer Logs Work

A stealer log is the output of malware called an infostealer. This type of malicious software quietly installs on a computer, often through a phishing email or a fake software download. Once inside, it scans for saved passwords in your browser, records keystrokes, and grabs session cookies that keep you logged into websites. All of that information gets bundled into a log file and sent back to the attacker. The attacker then posts or sells that file, sometimes on Telegram, sometimes on dark web forums. The TokyoCloudFREE log followed this exact pattern before landing on a public channel where anyone could download it.
