HEROIC analysts found a stealer log file called Tor Log Mix, uploaded to a Telegram channel on 30 January 2024. The file contains 7,053 records, each combining an email address, a plaintext password, and the site URL where that login was used. This leak is a textbook example of a stealer log, one of the most common breach types HEROIC tracks today.

What Kind of Breach Is the Tor Log Mix Leak

Unlike a hacked company database, a stealer log does not come from one single organization getting breached. Instead it is a collection of credentials pulled directly from infected personal computers, often bundled together from many different victims and sold or shared as one file, which is exactly what the Tor Log Mix batch appears to be.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the sites each login was used on

Why This Matters

Plaintext passwords are ready to use the moment an attacker opens the file, no cracking required. Criminals feed these logins into credential stuffing tools that test the same email and password across banking, email, and shopping sites all at once. A single match can trigger account takeover, followed by identity theft or financial fraud that spreads well beyond the original account.

How Stealer Logs Are Created

Stealer log malware infects a device through a cracked download, fake update, or malicious attachment, then quietly scans the browser for saved passwords, cookies, and autofill data. Everything gets packaged up and sent back to whoever controls the malware. Because it runs silently in the backround, most victims never notice until the damage is already done.
