HEROIC Discovers the TOR_LOG MIX Stealer Log Shared on Telegram

In August 2023, HEROIC's threat intelligence analysts detected a stealer log file distributed through Telegram under the label TOR_LOG MIX. The file contained 3,248 records pulled from compromised endpoints in the United States, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs pointing to the services and platforms each victim had been actively using.

Why This Data Is Dangerous

Stealer log data is prized by cybercriminals precisely because it is current. Unlike breached database records that may be months or years old, stealer logs capture credentials at the exact moment of infection. With plaintext passwords requiring no additional processing, any attacker who obtains this log can immediately begin attempting unauthorized access to the email accounts and URL-linked services of every person in the dataset.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (active services and platforms used by victims)

Why This Matters

Credential stuffing attacks powered by stealer log data are among the fastest-moving threats in cybersecurity. Each of the 3,248 records in the TOR_LOG MIX file represents a real person whose account details could be tested against dozens of platforms in seconds. When victims reuse passwords across multiple services, a single stolen credential can cascade into account takeovers affecting banking, email, shopping, and social media simultaneously. The consequences extend beyond account access to include identity theft, fraudulent transactions, and the compromise of friends and colleagues through hijacked communication channels. Many victims never recieve any warning until the damage is already done.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Stealer malware is typically delivered through phishing campaigns, trojanized software installers, or malicious browser extensions. Once active on a device, it silently harvests credentials from browser storage, saved passwords, and autofill data. The results are bundled into structured log files and sent to a remote server controlled by the attacker. These logs are then sorted, packaged, and distributed through underground channels. Telegram has become a primary distribution platform because it allows anonymous sharing at scale. The TOR_LOG MIX file was definitaly circulated in this fashion before security researchers identified and catalogued it.

Check If Your Data Was Exposed

Researchers now link TOR_LOG MIX to a broader wave of Telegram-distributed stealer logs that occured throughout mid-2023. If you believe your credentials may be among those exposed, HEROIC's free dark web scanner can help you find out. The tool searches more than 400 billion leaked records across stealer logs, breach databases, and forum dumps. Run a free scan with your email address now to check whether your data appears in TOR_LOG MIX or any of the thousands of other known breach datasets indexed by HEROIC.
