HEROIC Researchers Trace Trident_Cloud_3 to 20,994 Stolen Logins
HEROIC threat analysts traced a stealer log dataset labeled "Trident_Cloud_3" to a public Telegram channel, tied to a leak date of December 29, 2024. Researchers confirmed the file contains 20,994 records, each one pairing an email address with a plaintext password and the URL of the site or service it was used on. The data was not pulled from a company's servers, it was harvested directly from individual infected computers, one login at a time.
Why This Is Dangerous
Researchers note that plaintext passwords are the most immediately dangerous form a leak can take, because there is no hashing or encryption an attacker has to break through first. Every one of the 20,994 credentials in this file is ready to use exactly as captured, which means the window between exposure and exploitation can be a matter of hours rather than days.
What Was Exposed in the Trident_Cloud_3 Leak
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs of the accounts and services accessed
Why This Matters
Analysts point out that a leak of this size gives attackers everything needed to run credential stuffing attacks at scale, automatically testing each email and password combination against email providers, banks, and shopping sites. Anyone who reused one of these passwords elsewhere is exposed to account takeover, and from there to identity theft and financial fraud, since a compromised email account is often the key that unlocks every other account tied to it.
How Stealer Logs Work
Researchers explain that a stealer log is the direct output of information-stealing malware, software that infects a device through a malicious download, cracked application, or phishing link, then quietly copies every password saved in the browser along with the site it belongs to. Once the malware operator collects enough data, they package it into a log file, exactly like the one traced here, and post it to a Telegram channel where anyone can access it.
