HEROIC analysts detected a stealer log file posted to a public Telegram channel on May 18, 2024, attributed to the handle Trident_Cloud. The file contained 4,635 records harvested directley from infected devices based in the United States. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and associated URLs for cloud services and API endpoints the victims had accessed. The immediate availability of these credentials with no encryption made exploitation possible from the moment of upload.

Why This Is Dangerous

Stealer logs with plaintext passwords are among the most immediately dangerous types of leaked data. There is no decryption required, no hash to crack. Anyone with the file can attempt to log in to the victim's accounts right away. With email addresses and matching passwords, attackers can access personal inboxes, reset passwords on financial accounts, take over social media profiles, and use stolen identities to commit fraud. The API and cloud service URLs in this dataset suggest some victims had professional or business tool access exposed alongside personal credentials.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (API hosts and cloud service endpoints)

Why This Matters

United States users affected by the Trident_Cloud leak face elevated risk of credential stuffing, account takeover, and identity theft. Attackers routinely load stolen credential lists into automated tools that test logins acros hundreds of websites in minutes. A single reused password can give an attacker access to banking portals, email accounts, and workplace tools simultaneously. Financal fraud and identity theft are among the most damaging and time-consuming outcomes, and US victims face particular risk given the volume of financial services tied to email-based authentication.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer log malware typically reaches victims through phishing emails, fake software downloads, or malicious browser extensions. Once installed on a device, the malware silently harvests saved passwords, session cookies, and browsing activity. All collected data is transmitted back to the attacker's infrastructure and compiled into a log file. That file is then distributed or sold through Telegram and other dark channels, putting the credentials in front of a wide audience. The process is fast and quiet, and most victims never realize thier device was compromised.
