In January 2026, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram by an anonymous threat actor. Tracked as the Trident_Cloud dataset, the file contained 10,499 records harvested from compromised endpoints. Each record held an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the service the victim was logged into -- every element an attacker needs to begin taking over accounts immediately.

Why This Is Dangerous

The Trident_Cloud breach gave attackers a complete credential kit. Plaintext passwords require no cracking. Service URLs eliminate guesswork about where to use them. Email addresses provide the account identifier. With all three pieces, an attacker can log into victim accounts directly, attempt to access linked services, and escalate access through password reset flows -- all within minutes of obtaining the file.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (service endpoints accessed from infected devices)

Why This Matters

Credential data from stealer logs has a direct and immediate impact on victims. Unlike older database leaks where passwords are hashed, this data was captured live and requires no additional work to weaponize. The risks include:

  • Credential stuffing: Attackers run email-password pairs through automated tools targeting hundreds of websites simultaneously.
  • Account takeover: Email access is a skeleton key -- once inside, attackers can reset passwords for banking, cloud storage, and social platforms.
  • Identity theft: Years of personal data stored in email inboxes becomes accessible, including identity verification documents and financial statements.
  • Financial fraud: The service URLs in the dataset show exactly where victims held financial accounts, giving attackers a direct target list.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Infostealer malware is a lightweight program that installs silently on a victim's device through phishing emails, malicious advertisements, or pirated software. Once active, it captures passwords as they are typed, harvests credentials stored in browser password managers, and records the URLs of every site the victim logs into. The captured data is then exfiltrated to attacker-controlled infrastructure and packaged into log files that are sold or freely distributed on Telegram and dark web markets. The victim experiences no visible disruption -- the malware operates invisibly until unauthorized account activity appears.
