On December 4, 2022, security researchers identified a stealer log file uploaded to a public Telegram channel under the label VIOLET LOGS CLOUD - 400 2. The file contained 4,898 records exposing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of services where those credentials were used. This is the second identified volume in the VIOLET LOGS CLOUD series, suggesting a systematic, organized collection effort by the threat actor behind these uploads. The structured naming and sequential numbering indicate this is not a one-off event but part of a deliberate, ongoing credential harvesting campaign targeting endpoint devices across multiple organizashions.

Why This Is Dangerous

The combination of email addresses, plaintext passwords, and service URLs makes this dataset immediately operational for attackers. There is no decryption required, no technical barrier -- just direct credential pairs mapped to the exact services they unlock. Threat actors monitoring Telegram channels can extract and test these credentials within hours of a post going live. The sequential nature of the VIOLET LOGS CLOUD series also suggests the threat actor has access to an ongoing source of stolen credentials, meaning victims from this batch may continue to face exposure from future related dumps.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (API host endpoints and service logins)

Why This Matters

Telegram has become one of the most active distribution channels for stolen credential data because it combines wide accessability with minimal moderation. Unlike dark web marketplaces, Telegram channels require no special software, no cryptocurrency payments, and no vetting -- making stolen data immediately available to the broadest possible audience of bad actors. Once posted, a log like VIOLET LOGS CLOUD 400 2 is typically archived, scraped, and redistributed within hours, ensuring the data circulates far beyond its original channel for months or years afterward.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Infostealer malware is typically delivered through phishing emails, malicious browser extensions, or trojanized software installers. After infecting a device, it silently harvests credentials from the browser's saved password storage, session cookies, and application login caches. The URLs associated with each credential are also captured, creating a precise record of which services each stolen password accesses. This data is then exfiltrated to an attacker-controlled server or Telegram bot, where it is sorted, labeled, and batched into numbered volumes like the VIOLET LOGS CLOUD series. The process is largely automated, allowing attackers to run it at scale across thousends of infected devices simultaneously.
