VIOLET LOGS CLOUD G COUNTRY Quietly Leaked 1,789 Passwords in a Stealer Log
Stealer Log Tied to Violet Logs Cloud G Country Surfaces on Telegram
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to a public Telegram channel on December 16, 2022, containing 1,789 records tied to United States accounts. Labeled internally as "Violet Logs Cloud G Country," the log exposed email addresses, plaintext passwords, and associated URLs harvested directly from infected devices.
Why This Is Dangerous
Because the passwords in this log were stored and shared in plaintext, anyone who gets hold of the file can log directly into the accounts tied to these credentials without needing to crack or decrypt anything. Combined with the URLs recorded alongside each entry, attackers know exactly which site each password unlocks, making it simple to attempt logins across banking, email, and shopping accounts in minutes.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- Associated URLs (the sites each login corresponds to)
Why This Matters
Stealer logs like this one are a favorite tool for credential stuffing attacks, where automated scripts test stolen email and password pairs against dozens of other websites. If any of the 1,789 people affected reused a password from this log elsewhere, their other accounts, email, banking, social media, are at risk of takeover. Plaintext passwords also make identity theft and financial fraud easier, since there is no encryption standing between the data and an attacker.
How Stealer Logs Work
A stealer log is the output of information-stealing malware that infects a device, often through a malicious download, cracked software, or phishing link, and quietly collects saved passwords, browser cookies, autofill data, and visited URLs. The malware bundles everything into a file and sends it back to whoever controls the infection. These logs are then sold, traded, or, as in this case, uploaded for free to Telegram channels where anyone can download and use them. Because the theft happens on the victim's own device, it bypasses website security entirely.
