On December 11, 2024, a Telegram user uploaded a stealer log file titled "ITALY MAIL ACCESS" containing 24 records of email logins harvested from infected devices. The file included email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the webmail services those logins unlocked. This is not a breach of any email provider's own systems. It is a small batch of login data quietly stolen from individual users' computers by malware, then packaged and shared on Telegram.

Why an Email Access Log Like This Is Dangerous

Email accounts are the master key to almost everything else online. Anyone holding a working email login can use it to reset passwords on banking, shopping, and social media accounts, intercept two-factor codes sent by email, and read years of personal correspondence. A small record count does not mean small risk. Even 24 compromised email accounts can be enough for an attacker to do serious damage if the right account is in the mix.

Because this data came from a stealer log rather than an old database dump, the passwords are likely to still be active. Malware captures credentials at the moment a victim's device is infected, so the login details are often fresh.

What Was Exposed in the Italy Mail Access Log

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords (stored and shared with no encryption)
  • URLs identifying the specific webmail services each login accessed

Why This Matters for These 24 Email Accounts

With a working email address, password, and login URL in hand, an attacker can walk straight into an inbox. From there they can trigger password resets on other accounts tied to that email, a classic form of account takeover. This data is also useful for credential stuffing, where criminals try the same email and password combination on banking sites, shopping accounts, and social media in hopes the victim reused it. The end result can be identity theft or financial fraud carried out in the victim's name.

How Mail Access Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware infects a device through channels like fake downloads, cracked software, or malicious email attachments. Once running, it quietly pulls saved passwords, autofill data, and login cookies directly out of the victim's browser or email client and sends them to the attacker. Those stolen logins are then compiled into a log file, named for whatever theme or target the uploader chooses, in this case webmail access, and shared or sold on platforms like Telegram. Because the theft happens on the device itself, it can capture logins for any email service the victim used while infected.
