HEROIC analysts flagged the NEVERHODE FREE stealer log in September 2023, uncovering a Telegram-shared dataset containing 12,850 records harvested from over 1,070 compromised machines. The log exposed email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs extracted directly from infected endpoints, giving attackers an immediate, ready-to-use credential set.

Why This Is Dangerous

Attackers armed with plaintext passwords from a stealer log do not need to do any additional work to break in. The credentials are already in plain text, tied to specific websites, and paired with working email addresses. That combination lets criminals skip the usual steps and go straight to attempting logins on high-value targets like banking portals, corporate email systems, and cloud platfroms.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (the specific sites victims were logged into when infected)

Why This Matters

With email and plaintext password pairs in hand, criminals can launch credential stuffing campaigns against hundreds of services simultaneously. Each successful login can lead to account takeover, unauthorized purchases, or access to sensitive personal data. From there, the damage often expands through identity theft and financial fraud that is hard to reverse and can persist for years.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware is designed to operate silently on a victims machine. It usually arrives through phishing, pirated software, or fake browser updates. Once active, it scans the browser for saved passwords, cookies, and browsing history, then packages everything into a structured log file. That file gets sent back to the attacker automaticaly, often before any antivirus tool has a chance to detect the infection.
