What HEROIC Analysts Found

On July 8, 2026, HEROIC analysts identified a combolist file circulating in a private Telegram channel, uploaded by an anonymous user. Internally labeled "X5657 HQ MIX," the file contained 5,614 records pairing email addresses with plaintext passwords and matching website URLs. Combolists like this one are typically assembled from older breaches and stealer logs, then repackaged for easy reuse by anyone who downloads them.

Why This Is Dangerous

Because the passwords are stored in plaintext and matched directly to specific URLs, an attacker does not need to crack or decrypt anything. They can simply load the file into automated login software and start testing each email and password pair against the site it came from, plus any other service where the same password might have been reused. That makes this kind of leak immediately usable, which is what makes it dangerous even at a relatively small scale.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • Associated website URLs

Why This Matters

Combolists like X5657 HQ MIX fuel credential stuffing attacks, where automated tools try stolen email and password pairs across hundreds of websites in minutes. If any of the 5,614 people in this file reused a password across a banking site, email account, or social media profile, that account is now exposed to takeover. Once an attacker is in, they can lock out the real owner, drain financial accounts, or use the compromised identity to commit fraud elsewhere.

How Combolist Leaks Work

A combolist is a plain text file pairing usernames or emails with passwords, usually written as "email:password" on each line. Rather than coming from a single hacked database, combolists are often stitched together from multiple older breaches, stealer log outputs, and earlier leaks into one merged file. Because no technical skill is required to use them, combolists like this one circulate quickly through Telegram groups, which is how stolen credentials end up being reused against accounts that were never directly breached.
