Yahoo.de Stealer Log: 36,051 Records Exposed

On 27-Nov-2024, HEROIC analysts identified a file named "yahoo.de" uploaded by a Telegram user in a channel used to trade stolen login data. The file contained 36,051 records, each pairing a Yahoo.de email address with a plaintext password and the URL of the site the login was captured on, focused specifically on Yahoo's German email service.

Why This Stealer Log Is Dangerous

An email account is often the single point of failure for someone's entire online identity, and that is exactly what makes this Yahoo.de leak dangerous. Each record already includes the exact site the password belongs to, so an attacker does not need to guess where it works. Because the passwords are stored in plaintext, whoever has this file can log into any of these 36,051 inboxes right away.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the sites the credentials were used on

Why This Matters

Losing control of an email account can lead directly to identity theft, since inboxes hold years of personal correspondence, financial notifications, and password reset links for other services. Someone who takes over a Yahoo.de account from this leak can piece together enough personal detail to impersonate the account holder, request password resets on banking or shopping accounts, and cause damage well beyond the inbox itself.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs are produced by malware that infects a victim's device and quietly copies saved browser logins, passwords, and the sites they belong to. That stolen data is compiled into a file, in this case one focused on Yahoo.de accounts, and traded or sold through Telegram channels and dark web marketplaces where other criminals can access it.

Check If You Are Affected

Because a compromised email account can expose your identity far beyond your inbox, checking your status is worth doing now. HEROIC's free breach scanner checks your email against a database of more than 400 billion leaked records, including stealer logs like this one, so you can quickly confirm your exposure and secure your account.
