HEROIC analysts found 6,489 records exposed in the CRYPTON_LOGS stealer log, which a Telegram user uploaded on February 12, 2023. The breach occured when malware harvested credentials from infected devices and bundled them into a log file, capturing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the exact URLs where those passwords were used.

How Attackers Chain CRYPTON_LOGS Into Further Attacks

Because each record pairs an email address with a plaintext password and a specific URL, criminals know exactly which service to target first. From there, the damage cascades: an email account gives access to password resets on banking apps, streaming services, and social media. Crypto accounts tied to the same email are partcularly at risk since transfers are often irreversible once they go through.

Why One Leaked Password Can Unlock Many Accounts

Most people reuse passwords across several sites. When CRYPTON_LOGS exposed a working plaintext password, attackers could attempt it on email providers, banks, and social media platforms in seconds using automated tools. This is called credential stuffing, and it leads to account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud at scale. Victims often do not realize their accounts have been accessed until significant damage has occured.

How Stealer Log Works

Infostealer malware spreads through cracked software downloads, fake browser extensions, and phishing links. Once installed on a device, it silently copies saved passwords, cookies, and autofill data from the browser without the user noticing. All of that data gets packaged into a log file and sent to an attacker. The attacker then sorts the logs and posts them to Telegram channels like CRYPTON_LOGS to sell access or build a following.
