On July 21, 2023, HEROIC detected a stealer log file posted to a public Telegram channel by a user operating under the name GODELESS CLOUD. The file contained 10,242 records scraped from infected devices. Each entry captured an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of a site or service the victim had accessed. The data was made freely available to anyone following that Telegram channel, putting all 10,242 individuals at immediate risk.

Why This Breach Is Dangerous

Stealer log files are immediately weaponizable. The passwords in this file are not encrypted or hashed. They are written in plain text, ready for anyone to copy and use. Criminals don't need special tools or skills to exploit this data. They simply take the email and password pairs and attempt to log into popular websites. Because password reuse is so common, one stolen credential from this file could open doors to online banking, email, and social media accounts. The URLs in the file make it even worse by revealing exactly which platforms the victims were signed into.

What Was Exposed in the GODELESS CLOUD Stealer Log

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (websites and services the victims were logged into)

Why This Matters for You

When plaintext passwords are leaked alongside your email, anyone can attempt to access your accounts without any additonal effort. Credential stuffing tools automate this process, testing your login details acros hundreds of websites in seconds. The result can be account takeovers, drained financial accounts, stolen identities, and fraudulent activity carried out in your name. The URL data included in this log also maps out your digital footprint, giving criminals the context they need to craft convincing scams targeting you specificaly.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Stealer malware infects a device when a user opens a malicious attachment, runs a tampered installer, or visits a website that pushes drive-by downloads. The malware immediately begins gathering credentials stored in browsers, passwords typed into login forms, and session cookies. It also records the URLs associated with each login. All of this information is compressed into a log file and transmitted back to the attacker. The attacker then distributes the log through Telegram or dark web forums, often selling it or sharing it for free to grow their reputation. The whole process can happen within minutes of infection without the victim knowing anything.
