In April 2023, a single Telegram upload quietly placed 3,898 people's login credentials into circulation across criminal networks. The file, attributed to GromCloudFree2, contained plaintext passwords, email adresses, and URLs harvested from compromised devices by infostealer malware. What began as a routine post in a Telegram channel became a persistent threat -- these records do not disappear once uploaded, and they continue to be used in account takeover campaigns long after the original post.

Why This Is Dangerous

GromCloudFree2 is a stealer log, meaning every credential in the file was pulled live from a real person's device. Plaintext passwords require no cracking -- attackers can immediately test them against email providers, banking portals, and e-commerce sites. The presence of URLs in the dataset tells attackers exactly where each victim holds accounts, making targeted attacks far more eficient than generic credential stuffing operations. Three years after the original upload, these credentials remain in active use by threat actors.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (sites the victim had active credentials for)

Why This Matters

Stealer log dumps from 2023 are still weaponized today because most victims never change passwords for accounts they do not actively monitor. The GromCloudFree2 data circulates through forums, paste sites, and private Telegram groups, regularly resurfacing in new compilations. If your email appeared in this breach and you have not changed the associated password since 2023, that account is likely still vulnerable. Credential reuse accross services multiplies the risk substantially.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Infostealer malware infects devices through phishing links, cracked software downloads, or drive-by exploit kits. Once installed, it silently captures saved browser passwords, active session cookies, URL history with credentials, and autofill entries. The data is packaged into a structured log file and exfiltrated to attacker infrastructure. Operators then sort and package logs by country, credential type, or service, and distribute them through Telegram channels or dark web marketplaces -- sometimes for free to boost reputation, sometimes for profit.
