HEROIC analysts found the MetacloudVip stealer log breach in their monitoring of Telegram data sharing channels, identifying it as a September 2023 upload that exposed 16,315 records. The file contained email addresses, plaintext passwords, and endpoint URLs scraped from devices that had been infected with credential-stealing malware. The name "MetacloudVip 1000" in the file label suggests a batch identifier used by the threat actor to organise and distribute stealer log collections through Telegram.

Why This Is Dangerous

With over 16,000 credential pairs all stored in plaintext, this breach hands attackers a large, immediately useable database of logins. No cracking tools needed, no waiting period. The endpoint URLs included in the file also tell attackers exactly which services each victim was using, letting them prioritize which accounts to target first based on the value of the platform.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (endpoint and API hosts)

Why This Matters

Data like this feeds directly into credential stuffing operations where automated bots test leaked email and password pairs across banks, email providers, e-commerce sites, and workplace tools. Even one successful login can cascade into identity theft or financial fraud. Victims who reuse passwords across multiple accounts are at the greatest risk, since a single exposed credential can unlock access to many services at once. Account takeovers from stealer logs can go undetected for weeks before the victim notices somthing is wrong.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Stealer malware is typically distributed through channels that look completely legitimate: pirated software, browser extensions, fake antivirus tools, or phishing emails pretending to be invoices or shipping notifications. When the victim installs or opens the malicious file, the stealer silently begins collecting browser-saved passwords, cookies, and the URLs of sites the victim logs into. The harvested data is bundled and sent back to whoever controls the malware. Those operators then post the log collections to Telegram under descriptive labels like "MetacloudVip 1000" to signal batch size and origin to potential buyers or other bad actors.
