In May 2023, a threat actor using Telegram distributed a stealer log bundle labeled Zeus Cloud 02.05.23, exposing 3,084 records belonging to users primarily based in the United States. The dataset contained plaintext paswords, email addresses, and URLs -- the direct output of infostealer malware running on compromised devices. This type of credential dump is a favorite tool of cybercriminals targeting online accounts, corporate systems, and financial services.

Why This Is Dangerous

Unlike breaches where attackers crack hashed passwords, the Zeus Cloud log delivered credentials in plaintext -- ready to use the moment they hit a criminal's hands. Stealer logs like this one are distributed rapidly across Telegram channels, meaning that within hours of the upload, hundreds of bad actors could have accessed and weaponized the data. Every exposed email and password combination represents an open door into the victim's digital life, from banking to social media to corporate email accounts.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (endpoint and API host addresses)

Why This Matters

Stealer log data does not expire. Even credentials leaked in 2023 remain valuable to attackers in 2026 because most people reuse passwords across multiple accounts. The 3,084 records from the Zeus Cloud log may have already been folded into larger credential databases circulating on the dark web. For individuals and organizations whose data appears in this breach, the risk of account takeover, phishing, and identty fraud remains very real.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs are produced by a class of malware called infostealers. These programs are typically delievered via phishing emails, trojanized software, or malicious browser extensions. Once running on a victim's machine, they extract saved passwords from browsers, capture credentials entered into login forms, and harvest cookies that can be used to hijack active sessions. The stolen data is packaged into log files and sent to attacker infrastructure, then sold or shared on dark web forums and Telegram groups. The Zeus Cloud collection followed this exact pattern before being uploaded by a Telegram user in May 2023.
