HEROIC analysts found a stealer log file uploaded to a public Telegram channel on December 24, 2024, from a source tagged "1616." The file held 3,541 records, each combining an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the account that password opens, all pulled straight from malware-infected devices.

Why This Is Dangerous

There is no password cracking required here. Every login in this file already works, and it is labeled with the exact site it belongs to. An attacker can run through the entire list with automated tools and know within seconds which accounts open successfully, no guessing involved.

What Was Exposed in the 1616 Leak

  • Email addresses tied to infected devices
  • Plaintext passwords with no hashing or encryption
  • URLs identifying the exact login page each credential unlocks

Why This Matters

Password reuse is what turns a small leak like this into a real problem. If any of these 3,541 people used the same password on their email, bank, or work account, an attacker now has a direct path in through credential stuffing, which can escalate into account takeover, financial fraud, or identity theft in a matter of minutes.

How the 1616 Stealer Log Was Likely Created

Stealer logs like this one come from infostealer malware that infects a device through a pirated app, a fake update, or a malicious attachment. Once installed, it copies saved browser passwords, autofill entries, and active session data, packages the results into a text file, and sends it back to the attacker, who then uploads it to channels like the one this leak surfaced on.

Check If You Are Affected

Do not assume a small leak means low risk. HEROIC's free breach scanner checks your email against more than 400 billion leaked records, including stealer logs like this one, and tells you immediately if your data has surfaced. Run a free scan and change any password it flags.
