In June 2023, HEROIC researchers catalogued a stealer log dump posted to Telegram by a threat actor operating under the name 62 Boss. The dataset contained 2,658 records, each consisting of email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the specific URLs of services targeted during the malware infection. Unlike traditional database breaches where an attacker penetrates a company's servers, this data was harvested directly from victims' devices by information-stealing malware running in the background without the user's knowledge.

Why This Is Dangerous

The 62 Boss dump is particularly dangerous because the credentials are drawn from active, real-world sessions. When an information stealer captures a password, it captures the password that is currently working. This means every record in this dataset represents an account that was accessible at the moment of theft. Attackers with access to stealer logs can mount immediate account takeover attempts without needing to crack anything. The inclusion of service URLs makes automated exploitation eficient and targeted.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (specific services targeted by the stealer malware)

Why This Matters

Credential stuffing attacks powered by stealer log data have become one of the leading causes of account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud. When attackers have 2,658 verified email and password pairs, they do not need to guess. They simply test those credentials accross banking platforms, email providers, and online retailers simultaneously. Because password reuse is common, one stolen credential can unlock multiple accounts. Victims may not discover the breach for months, by which time seperate accounts have been drained and personal information sold.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware is usually delivered through phishing links, cracked software, or malicious browser extensions. Once running on a device, it harvests browser-saved passwords, session tokens, and form autofill data in seconds. The resulting log file is compressed and sent back to the attacker automatically. Modern stealer malware can exfiltrate this data without triggering most antivirus programs because it does not behave like traditional ransomware. The 62 Boss upload to Telegram represents the final step in this chain, where the harvested data is distributed to buyers or other threat actors. Victims recieve no notification because the breach happened on their own device, not at any service provider.

Check If You Are Affected

The 62 Boss stealer log is indexed in HEROIC's breach intelligence database. HEROIC's free scanner searches your email address against more than 400 billion compromised records, including stealer log archives like this one. Because these breaches never appear in standard corporate disclosure notices, HEROIC's scanner is often the only way to find out if your adress was included. Check now before your credentials are used against you.
