HEROIC Analysts Flag a 71,674-Record JapanKorea Stealer Log

HEROIC's dark web monitoring team identified a stealer log named "72K Private JapanKorea Base JP KR," uploaded to a Telegram channel on 02-Apr-2023. The file contains 71,674 records, each combining an email address with a plaintext password and the URL of the site the login was captured from.

Why the JapanKorea Base Stealer Log Is Dangerous

This file is dangerous because it removes every barrier between an attacker and a working login. Each record already tells them the exact website a password unlocks, so there's nothing to guess or crack. Since the passwords are stored in plaintext, anyone who obtains the file can read them the moment they open it and start using them immediately.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the websites where the credentials were used

Why This Matters

With tens of thousands of ready-to-use email and password pairs in one file, this data is built for account takeover, since each record hands an attacker a working login for a specific site. It also enables credential stuffing: anyone who reused that same password on other accounts faces risk there too, even outside the sites named in this particular file.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs are produced by malware that infects a device and quietly copies saved passwords and session data straight out of the browser, sending it back to whoever is running the malware. The result is a plain text file listing exactly which login works on which website. Files like this one, labeled "72K Private JapanKorea Base JP KR," are then packaged up and traded on Telegram, which is where HEROIC analysts found it.

Check If You Are Affected

With over 70,000 records in this file, checking whether you're included is worth doing rather than assuming you're safe. HEROIC's free breach scanner checks your email against a database of more than 400 billion leaked records, including stealer logs like this one, and lets you know right away if you've been exposed. If there's a match, change that password immediately and avoid reusing it elsewhere.
