HEROIC analysts discovered that in June 2023, a Telegram user publicly uploaded a stealer log file containing 4,082 exposed records. The file, labeled "ARAB PRIVITE 2," contained a mix of email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs harvested from infected devices. This type of data does not come from a single hacked website but rather from malware that silently collected credentials directly from victims' computers before the data was packaged and shared on messaging platforms.

Why This Is Dangerous

The data in this breach is especially harmful because it includes plaintext passwords, meaning the passwords are fully readable with no encryption or hashing to slow attackers down. Anyone who obtains this file has immediate, ready-to-use login credentials. Combined with the email addresses and URLs that show exactly which websites the victims were using, attackers can log in directly to those accounts without any additional effort. There is no guessing or cracking required.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs (showing which websites victims were logged into)

Why This Matters

When email addresses and plaintext passwords are exposed together, the consequences can spread well beyond the original accounts. Most people reuse passwords across multiple services, so a single exposed credential can unlock email inboxes, banking apps, social media profiles, and cloud storage accounts. Attackers use automated tools to test stolen credentials across hundreds of popular websites in seconds, a technique known as credential stuffing. Even if you have never heard of this particular data file, your information may be inside it if you were affected by stealer malware around that time.

How Stealer Logs Work

A stealer log breach is different from a traditional website hack. Instead of breaking into a company's database, cybercriminals distribute malware, often hidden inside pirated software, fake browser extensions, or phishing email attachments, that installs silently on a victim's personal device. Once installed, the malware scans the device for saved browser passwords, session cookies, and autofill data. It bundles this information into a log file and sends it back to the attacker. Those log files are then sold, traded, or uploaded to platforms like Telegram where other criminals can access them. The victim rarely knows their device was ever compromised.

Check If You Are Affected

HEROIC's free breach scanner searches a database of more than 400 billion records, including stealer log data like this file, to tell you whether your email address or passwords have been exposed. If your credentials appear in this breach or others like it, you will receive an immediate alert so you can take action before attackers do.
