ATM_LOGS Stealer Log Exposed 3,194 Emails and Plaintext Passwords
In June 2024, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file named "ATM_LOGS" uploaded to a Telegram channel by an anonymous user. Despite the name, the file did not contain payment card or ATM terminal data; it contained 3,194 records made up of email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the sites those credentials unlock.
Why the ATM_LOGS Leak Is Dangerous
Stealer logs are pulled directly off an infected computer rather than stolen from one company's database. Malware on the victim's machine reads every password saved in the browser and pairs it with the exact site it belongs to, so whoever holds this file can log in immediately without cracking or guessing anything.
What Was Exposed in the ATM_LOGS File
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- The URLs of the websites those logins belong to
Why This Matters
Because the passwords are stored as plain text and matched to working login pages, this data is immediately usable for account takeover. Anyone whose credentials appear in this file risks having their email, shopping, or social accounts accessed by someone else, particularly if that password has ever been reused elsewhere.
How Stealer Logs Work
Stealer malware usually arrives hidden inside a cracked program, a fake software update, or a malicious download. Once it runs, it quietly harvests the passwords and autofill data saved in the browser and sends everything back to the attacker in a single log file. Files like "ATM_LOGS" are then shared or sold on Telegram channels, which is how this one came to light, regardless of what name the uploader gave it.
