Health eCommerce Breach: Best Body Exposed 53,828 Customer Records
HEROIC analysts identified a database breach affecting Best Body, a Polish e-commerce platform specializing in sports nutrition and dietary supplements, on August 2, 2024. The breach exposed 53,828 customer records, with compromised data consisting of email addresses, first names, and last names. Best Body operates at bestbody.com.pl and serves a health-focused customer base across Poland.
Why This Is Dangerous: Full names paired with email addresses give attackers everything needed to launch highly personalized phishing campaigns. An email addressed to a victim by their actual name, appearing to come from a familiar health or fitness brand, is far more convincing than generic spam. Attackers can impersonate Best Body directly -- referencing orders, promotions, or account activity -- to trick customers into clicking malicious links or providing payment details.

Why This Matters
The combination of a real name and email address is the foundation of spear-phishing and social engineering. Fraudsters can use this data to send personalized fake order confirmations, subscription renewal notices, or shipping alerts that appear to originate from Best Body. These attacks can lead to credential harvesting, financial fraud, and identity theft. Health and fitness consumers are also frequent targets for supplement scams and fraudulent health product marketing, making this demographic particularly valuable to certain categories of fraudsters.
How Database Breaches Work
A database breach occurs when an unauthorized party gains access to a company's backend database and extracts stored records. Common attack methods include SQL injection, which exploits poorly sanitized input fields to run unauthorized database queries; compromised administrative credentials obtained through phishing or credential stuffing; and misconfigured databases inadvertently exposed to the public internet. E-commerce platforms are frequent targets because they maintain large databases of customer identity and contact information accumulated through account registrations and purchases. Extracted data is typically posted on dark web forums, where it is downloaded by many different threat actors.
