Identity Theft Risk Grows After Combolist “1.” Leaks 9,483 Logins
What HEROIC Analysts Found
In April 2026, HEROIC's threat intelligence team identified a combolist, uploaded to Telegram under the sparse label "1.", by an individual user. Despite the generic name, the file contained 9,483 records pairing email addresses with plaintext passwords, along with the account URLs they were used with.
Why This Is Dangerous
A vague file name does not make the data inside any less real. Because these passwords were stored and shared in plaintext, anyone who downloads this file can read them exactly as typed, with no cracking required. If you have reused that password anywhere else, an attacker already has what they need to log in.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- Associated account URLs
Why This Matters
Nearly 9,500 credential pairs is enough to cause meaningful damage once criminals start using them. Attackers feed lists like this into automated tools that test the same email and password combination across banking, email, and social media logins, a method known as credential stuffing. Wherever a password has been reused, the risk extends to account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud.
How Combolists Work
A combolist pairs a username or email with a password, usually one pair per line in a plain text file. These lists are often stitched together from smaller breaches, stealer malware infections, or scraped login pages, then shared or sold through Telegram channels and dark web forums, sometimes under vague or numbered file names to avoid drawing attention. Because they require no technical skill to use, combolists remain a common tool behind everyday account takeovers.
Check If You Are Affected
HEROIC's free breach scanner checks your email address against a database of more than 400 billion breached records, including combolists like this one. If your information turns up, change that password right away and anywhere else you have used it.
