What HEROIC Analysts Found in the CRONCLOUDFREE Stealer Log

In August 2023, HEROIC analysts catalogued a stealer log file distributed on Telegram under the name CRONCLOUDFREE. The file held 5,526 compromised records harvested from infected devices. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the service that was targeted at the time of infection. The CRONCLOUDFREE name suggests a tool or service used to automate stealer log generation, with logs distributed freely through Telegram channels.

This is not a hack of a single website or company. Every record in this file was extracted from a real person's device by malware, capturing their credentials silently while they went about their normal online activity.

Why CRONCLOUDFREE Credentials Are a Direct Entry Point for Account Takeover

When a stealer log contains plaintext passwords, every record becomes an instant attack vector. No cracking, no guessing, no additional work required. An attacker with access to the CRONCLOUDFREE log can take any of its 5,526 records and attempt to log in immediately using the captured email address, password, and target URL.

If you reuse passwords across multiple services, a single stolen credential can unlock your email, your banking accounts, your social media profiles, and your workplace tools all at once. Credential stuffing tools automate this process, testing each stolen pair across hundreds of platforms in seconds. The attacker does not even need to know which services you use. The URL in the log file tells them exactly where to start.

What Was Exposed in the CRONCLOUDFREE Stealer Log

  • Email addresses (login identifiers used across virtually every online platform)
  • Plaintext passwords (unencrypted, fully readable without any special tools)
  • URLs (identifying the specific services and websites compromised in this log)

Why the CRONCLOUDFREE Breach Matters for Identity Theft and Financial Security

Account takeover from a stealer log rarely stops at the first compromised account. Attackers prioritize email accounts because they are the master key to everything else. With acces to a victim's inbox, they can initiate password resets on banking apps, investment accounts, and e-commerce platforms. They can intercept two-factor authentication codes sent by SMS or email. They can impersonate the victim to extract money from contacts.

For victims whose work email appears in this log, the risk extends into their employer's systems. A single compromised corporate credential can provide an entry point for ransomware deployment, data exfiltration, or business email compromise fraud. Identity theft and long-term financial damage are potentialy the outcome for anyone who does not act quickly once their credentials are known to be compromised.

CRONCLOUDFREE was distributed freely on Telegram, meaning the 5,526 records it contains were acesible to an unknown number of threat actors simultaneously.

How the CRONCLOUDFREE Stealer Log Was Generated and Distributed

The name CRONCLOUDFREE hints at an automated stealer log generation process. In the stealer log ecosystem, operators often use cron-style scheduling to automatically run credential harvesting jobs and package the results into log files on a regular basis. The word FREE in the name suggests the logs were distributed at no cost, which is a common tactic to build an audience on Telegram channels before monetizing access.

Information stealers infect devices through phishing emails, malicious browser extensions, cracked software installers, and drive-by download attacks. Once active, they harvest browser-saved passwords, form inputs, and session cookies. The collected data is packaged and sent to the operator, where it is organized into distribution-ready log files and uploaded to Telegram.

Victims are typically unaware that any of this occured. The infection leaves no visible trace and causes no immediate disruption to the compromised device.
