Records Exposed 374,989
Source Type Database
Origin Darkweb
Password Type MD5(Salt)

On February 9, 2022, a database breach at Diva Chix, a U.S.-based online fashion gaming platform, exposed the account data of 374,989 users. The compromised records included email addresses, salted MD5 password hashes, usernames, and IP addresses. Although salted MD5 provides slightly more resistance to cracking than unsalted MD5, it is still considered a weak hashing standard by modern security benchmarks, and the passwords in this dataset are recieved as crackable with sufficient computing resources.

The Diva Chix Breach Means Someone May Already Have Your Password

If you used the same email and password on Diva Chix as you do on other websites, attackers who cracked these MD5 hashes could be logging into your email, social media, or financial accounts right now. The combination of email address, username, and hashed password makes this dataset particularly useful for credential stuffing campaigns targeting multiple platforms at once.

Why This Breach Still Matters

Gaming platforms attract younger users who may not practice strong password hygiene. With 374,989 accounts exposed, the Diva Chix leak represents a large pool of credentials that have been circulating on dark web forums and hacker marketplaces since 2022. IP addresses in the breach can also be used to identify users' approximate geographic locations, adding another layer of personal exposure. The dataset remains accessable to threat actors looking to exploit password reuse.

How Database Breaches Work

A database breach occurs when an attacker successfully extracts data from a backend database, often through SQL injection, exposed API endpoints, or compromised administrative credentials. Once the attacker exports the user table, they can attempt to crack password hashes offline using high-performance hardware. Even salted MD5 can be cracked at scale using modern GPU clusters and precomputed tables, especially when passwords are short or commonly used.
