The FerrariCloud Free Dump: 4,056 Stolen Login Credentials Hit Telegram in 2023
In July 2023, HEROIC analysts tracked a stealer log file titled FerrariCloud Free that appeared on Telegram, uploaded by an anonymous user. The file exposed 4,056 records harvested from compromised devices, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the sites and APIs those credentials were associated with. The label "Free" in the filename is telling: this dataset was distributed at no cost, making it accesible to a wide audience of potential attackers with no financial barrier to entry.
Why FerrariCloud Free Credentials Are Ready to Weaponize
Stealer log files like this one do not contain scrambled or hashed passwords. The infostealer malware that generated this data captured credentials live, from real devices, in real time. Every password is in its original plaintext form. Every record includes not just the username and password but also the exact URL of the service it belongs to.
That level of detail means an attacker does not need to run any additional steps before attempting a login. The file is, in effect, a ready-made attack kit. Given that it was shared freely, it likely passed through many hands before being indexed by security researchers.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses
- Plaintext Passwords
- URLs (website and API endpoint data)
Why This Matters for Real People
The combination of email addresses, plaintext passwords, and matched URLs creates the ideal input for credential stuffing tools. These tools cycle through stolen logins at high speed, testing them against banking sites, email providers, online retailers, and any other service where a successful login has value.
Account takeover is only the beginning. Once inside an account, attackers can make fraudulent purchases, lock the real owner out, harvest stored personal data for identity theft, or sell the access to other criminals. People who use the same password on multiple sites face compounded risk: one match in the FerrariCloud Free dataset could unlock several accounts simultaneously. The long-term consequenses of identity theft, in particular, can take years to fully resolve.
How Stealer Logs Work
Infostealer malware is spread through deceptive means: fake game mods, cracked software, phishing emails, and malicious browser extensions are all common delivery methods. Once installed on a device, the malware runs silently in the background, harvesting saved passwords from browsers, capturing keystrokes on login forms, and stealing session cookies that can be used to bypass two-factor authentication.
All of this data is packaged into a log file and sent to the attacker's server. The attacker then has a clean, structured file they can browse, sort, and share. Free distributions like the FerrariCloud Free log are sometimes used to build credibility in criminal communities or to attract buyers for premium datasets. Either way, the people whose data is inside have no way of knowing their credentials are now widely available unless they actively check.
