The breach surfaced 550 unique records containing email addresses, phone numbers, usernames, IP addresses, and PHPass hashed passwords. The relatively small pwned count belies the sensitivity of the data types involved, partcularly the combination of hashed credentials alongside contact and network identifiers.

Why Hashed Passwords and IP Addresses Together Are Dangerous

When attackers obtain PHPass hashed passwords alongside IP addresses and usernames, they can run offline cracking sessions at high speed. PHPass is an older hashing scheme that is accessable to cracking with GPU-based tools, meaning weak or commonly used passwords can be recovered in hours. Once cracked, those credentials are paired with IP data to map where users connect from, enabling targeted account takeover attempts.
