How Malware Led to 88 Stolen Logins in the Meta.ua Dump
HEROIC's DarkHive threat intelligence platform discovered a stealer log dump titled "Meta.ua Valid Access" that was shared on Telegram in November 2024. The file targets users of Meta.ua, a popular Ukrainian web portal and email service, containing 88 records of compromised credentials. Each entry was captured by infostealer malware and includes an email address, a plaintext password, and the associated URL — all confirmed as working logins at the time of collection.
Plaintext Passwords: No Time to React
Every password in the Meta.ua dump is stored in its original, unencrypted form. When credentials are plaintext and pre-validated, the window between a dump going public and accounts being compromised shrinks to near zero. Attackers can immediately use each credential to access the corresponding Meta.ua account without needing any tools to decode or crack the password.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses — Meta.ua accounts used by Ukrainian users for email, news, and online services
- Plaintext Passwords — verified working credentials with no encryption layer
- URLs — identifying which services and login portals each credential grants access to
From One Email Account to Total Compromise
An email account is often the master key to a person's entire online identity. With access to a Meta.ua inbox, attackers can reset passwords on banking sites, intercept two-factor authentication codes, and gain entry to social media and e-commerce accounts. Credential stuffing tools then test the same Meta.ua password against international platforms, exploiting the widespread habit of password reuse to cascade a single breach into many.
The Malware That Made This Possible
Each of these 88 credentials was extracted by infostealer malware that operated invisibly on the victims' devices. The malware likely entered through a phishing email, a trojanized application, or a compromised Ukrainian website. It silently harvested saved browser passwords, active session cookies, and autofill data, transmitting everything to the attacker's infrastructure. The logs were then curated to isolate Meta.ua accounts, validated to confirm they still worked, and packaged for distribution on Telegram.
Check If Your Credentials Were Exposed
HEROIC's breach database indexes over 400 billion compromised records from data breaches and stealer logs discovered worldwide. Search for your Meta.ua email address or any other email using HEROIC's free breach scanner to learn whether your credentials appear in this dump or other known breaches. Early detection gives you the critical opportunity to change passwords and enable additional security protections before attackers can take advantage.
