Identity Theft Got Easier After the Trident_Cloud Leak: 6,394 at Risk
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log dataset called Trident_Cloud, uploaded to a Telegram channel with data leaked on 11 August 2024. The file exposes 6,394 records pulled from infected devices, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the accounts those passwords unlock. Because the passwords are stored in plaintext, anyone who obtains the file can use them right away, without needing to crack anything.
Why This Is Dangerous
Identity theft and account takeover get a lot easier when credentials arrive this ready to use. Every record in the Trident_Cloud file already pairs a working email and password with the exact site or service it belongs to, so an attacker does not need to guess where a stolen password might apply. They can pull a record and log in directly, and because the data came straight from an infected device, there is a good chance it still works.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs of the associated login pages and services
Why This Matters
Once an attacker has a working email and password pair, credential stuffing lets them try that same combination across banking, email, and shopping accounts. Any of the 6,394 people in this leak who reused a password elsewhere face a real risk that a single leaked login turns into identity theft or financial fraud, especially if it opens the door to a primary email account used to reset passwords everywhere else.
How Stealer Log Breaches Work
A stealer log is not the product of a company being hacked. It comes from malware quietly running on an individual's device, which copies saved browser passwords, autofill entries, and session data, then packages everything into a log file sent back to the attacker. Files like Trident_Cloud are commonly shared or sold through Telegram channels, where they can circulate widely among buyers. Because the theft happens directly on the victim's device, the stolen credentials tend to be accurate and current at the time the log is shared.
