Inside Trident_Cloud: How Stealer Malware Harvested 6,354 Passwords
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log dataset called Trident_Cloud, uploaded to a Telegram channel with data leaked on 9 August 2024. The file exposes 6,354 records pulled from infected devices, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the accounts those passwords open. Because the passwords were never hashed or encrypted, anyone who obtains this file has everything needed to log in immediately.
Why This Is Dangerous
Unlike a password recovered from an encrypted database, every credential in this leak was captured live from an infected device, already matched to the exact site or service it unlocks. An attacker does not need to break anything or guess where a stolen password might work. They simply take a record from the Trident_Cloud file and log in directly, whether that leads to a personal email account or another connected service.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs of the associated login pages and services
Why This Matters
Because these 6,354 credentials are plaintext and already paired with a working login URL, they are immediately usable for account takeover. Anyone who reused one of these passwords elsewhere is exposed to credential stuffing, where attackers try the same email and password combination on banking, email, and shopping sites. That single point of reuse can quickly turn into financial fraud or identity theft.
How Stealer Log Breaches Work
A stealer log is the output of malware running quietly on someone's personal device rather than the result of a company being hacked. Once active, the malware copies saved browser passwords, autofill entries, and session data, then bundles it all into a text file that is sent back to whoever controls the malware. Logs like Trident_Cloud are typically shared or sold through Telegram channels, where they can circulate quickly among buyers. Because the credentials come directly from the infected device, they tend to be accurate and current at the time the log surfaces.
