One infected computer is all it took. HEROIC analysts found a stealer log dated June 9, 2020 that pulled 16 saved logins, complete with plaintext passwords and URLs, from a single compromised device and packaged them for sharing on Telegram.

Why This Is Dangerous

Everything in a log like this was saved by the device owner for convenience, then quietly copied out by malware without their knowledge. The passwords are live and current, not old or recycled, which makes each one worth trying the moment the file changes hands.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses: the login identifier tied to each of the 16 saved accounts.
  • Plaintext passwords: pulled directly from browser storage on the infected device.
  • URLs: the exact login page each saved credential belongs to.

Why This Matters

Sixteen accounts from one device usually means one person's whole digital life: email, shopping, maybe banking. Once an attacker has this list, they do not need to find sixteen separate victims, just one device owner whose accounts are now all reachable through a single compromised machine.

How This Breach Type Works

Stealer malware runs quietly on an infected device, often delivered through a cracked download or malicious attachment, and reads whatever passwords the browser has saved. It then sends that data, along with the matching site URLs, back to whoever is running the malware campaign.

Could This Be Your Device?

Scan your email to see if any of your accounts show up in this log or elsewhere in HEROIC's breach data. A match is a strong signal your device may still be infected.

Run an updated malware scan on your computer, then change every password your browser had saved before the scan.

Do this for your work laptop as well as your personal one, since stealer logs do not distinguish between the two.
