What Attackers Can Do With 39 Stolen Stealer Log Passwords
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log dated June 9, 2020 that paired 39 plaintext passwords with the email addresses and login URLs they unlocked. Unlike a combolist pulled together from older leaks, this file came straight from malware running on an infected machine.
What Attackers Can Do With This
Because a stealer log captures live, currently-used passwords straight out of a browser's saved logins, there is no guessing involved. An attacker can take any row in this file and log in immediately, using the paired URL to land on the exact site the credential belongs to.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses: the login identifier tied to each captured password.
- Plaintext passwords: pulled live from an infected device, ready to use immediately.
- URLs: the specific login page each credential pair was captured from.
Why This Matters
A stealer log this size still represents 39 working accounts that someone can try one by one. If any of those accounts share a password with an email inbox or banking login, an attacker can pivot from one account to the next using the same credential.
How This Breach Type Works
A stealer log comes from malware quietly installed on a victim's device, often through a fake download or infected attachment. Once running, it reads saved browser passwords, autofill data, and login URLs, then sends everything back to whoever controls the malware, who packages it for sale or sharing.
Was Your Password Captured Like This?
Scan your email to check it against this stealer log and every other breach HEROIC has indexed. A match means your device or one of your accounts may still be compromised, so act on it right away.
Run a malware scan on any device where you save passwords in the browser, then change every password stored there.
Check both personal and work email addresses, since stealer logs capture whatever was saved, regardless of purpose.
