MegaCloud 16.12 Hotmail Hits: 4,280 Logins Attackers Can Use
MegaCloud 16.12: What Attackers Can Actually Do With 4,280 Hotmail Logins
HEROIC analysts tracked a combolist labeled "4.2K Fresh Hotmail Hits By MegaCloud 16.12," shared on a Telegram channel and added to our breach intelligence database. The file contains 4,280 records of Hotmail email addresses paired with plaintext passwords and the URLs where they work. The underlying credentials were leaked on 16 December 2024.
Why This Is Dangerous
With a working email, a plaintext password, and the exact login URL in hand, an attacker does not need to guess anything. They can log into Hotmail inboxes directly, read private messages, reset passwords on any other account tied to that email, and lock the real owner out entirely. Because Hotmail and Outlook inboxes are often used to receive password reset links, gaining access to one of these accounts can act as a master key to everything else that account controls.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses (Hotmail)
- Plaintext passwords
- Associated login URLs
Why This Matters
Attackers who obtain working email and password pairs like these typically run them through credential stuffing tools that test the same login on banking sites, shopping accounts, and social media. Since the passwords in this file are already in plaintext, no extra effort is needed to make them usable. Anyone who reused their Hotmail password elsewhere is exposed to account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud well beyond the original inbox.
How a Combolist Like This Gets Built
A combolist is a file of email and password pairs compiled from earlier breaches, phishing pages, or infected devices, then packaged and shared or sold under a catalog-style name, in this case "MegaCloud 16.12." These lists are prized by attackers because they are already sorted and ready to test, with no cracking required.
