The New Zealand 8 Leak Could Unlock Your Email, Bank, Social Accounts
HEROIC analysts identified a combolist file labeled "New Zealand 8" that a Telegram user uploaded on February 18, 2023. The file contains 19,234 records pairing email addresses with plaintext passwords, along with URLs showing which sites each login was tied to. It is a smaller file than many combolists in circulation, but every record in it is a working login someone can try.
Why This Is Dangerous
Because the passwords are stored in plaintext, there is nothing standing between an attacker and the original login. The paired URL removes the guesswork, telling an attacker exactly where each credential was used. From there, a single working email and password combination can become the key to more than one account if that password was reused elsewhere.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs linking each credential to the site it was used on
Why This Matters
One leaked password rarely stays contained to one account. Attackers use credential stuffing tools to test the same email and password pair against email providers, banks, and social media platforms, since so many people reuse logins across services. A single exposed credential from a file like this can chain into email takeover, financial fraud, and identity theft if it unlocks even one other account.
How a Combolist Like This Is Built
A combolist strips a data leak down to its most usable form: just the email or username and password pairs, often gathered from older breaches, stealer logs, or other leaked sources and combined into one file. That simplicity is what makes it dangerous, since it can be loaded directly into automated login tools without further work. Telegram has become a routine channel for sharing and trading files like this one.
