Inside the KATANA_CLOUD FREE Stealer Log: 12,127 Records in One File

HEROIC analysts traced a single stealer log file, labeled "KATANA_CLOUD FREE," to a Telegram user upload on November 14, 2024. That one file held 12,127 records, each pairing an email address with a plaintext password and the URL of the site it unlocks. It is a small file by breach standards, but every entry in it is a ready-to-use login.

Why This Is Dangerous

Plaintext passwords remove the last obstacle between a criminal and your account. There is no hash to break and no encryption to defeat. Whoever holds this file can simply copy each email, password, and URL combination and attempt to log in directly, with no technical effort required.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the associated login pages

Why This Matters

Even a file of just over 12,000 records can be weaponized at scale through credential stuffing, where attackers automatically test each email and password pair across other popular sites. If a password was reused anywhere else, that account is exposed too, opening the door to account takeover, identity theft, or financial fraud.

How Stealer Logs Work

A stealer log is generated by infostealer malware that infects a device through a malicious download, cracked software, or a phishing link. Once active, it quietly copies saved browser passwords, autofill entries, and session data, then compiles everything into a single log file. These files are routinely shared on Telegram channels within days of collection, which is exactly how this dataset reached the public.
