HEROIC's DarkHive intelligence platform has identified a stealer log targeting Rediffmail.com users, exposing 4,059 compromised records. Shared on Telegram in December 2024, this dataset contains Indian email credentials harvested by infostealer malware. Rediffmail is one of India's oldest and most widely used email services, making this breach particularly impactful for the Indian internet community.

Plaintext Passwords Leave Users Completely Exposed

All 4,059 passwords in this dataset are stored as plaintext, meaning they appear in the file exactly as the user originally typed them. There is no hashing algorithm, no encryption layer, and no protective measure of any kind. Anyone who downloads this stealer log from Telegram can read and use every password instantly, without requiring any specialized tools or knowledge.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses — Rediffmail.com accounts used by Indian internet users
  • Plaintext Passwords — Unprotected credentials ready for immediate misuse
  • URLs — Websites and services where these Rediffmail credentials were saved

The Chain Reaction of Password Reuse

A single compromised Rediffmail password can trigger a chain reaction of account takeovers. Attackers know that users who maintain a Rediffmail account often use the same password for Indian banking apps, UPI payment services, government portals like DigiLocker, and e-commerce platforms. Each reused password creates another link in the chain, allowing attackers to move laterally from a compromised email to financial accounts and beyond.

Infostealers and the Indian User Base

Indian internet users are increasingly targeted by infostealer malware campaigns. These attacks often arrive through fake job offers, pirated software downloads, or WhatsApp and Telegram links promising free services. Once the malware is installed, it silently harvests all saved browser passwords, including Rediffmail credentials, and transmits them to attacker-controlled servers. The data is then organized by email domain and distributed through underground channels, eventually reaching Telegram groups where this dataset was found.

Check If Your Credentials Were Exposed
