HEROIC's DarkHive threat intelligence platform has uncovered a stealer log titled Hotmail Ubisoft Inboxed Hits, containing 832 compromised records. This dataset, shared on Telegram in November 2024, specifically targets Hotmail users with Ubisoft account credentials, exposing login details harvested by malware from infected machines.

Plaintext Passwords Leave No Room for Error

Every password in this leak is stored in plaintext — completely unencrypted and readable by anyone who accesses the file. There is no hashing or salting to slow down an attacker. The moment this data was posted to Telegram, every credential became instantly usable, giving cybercriminals a direct path into affected accounts without any technical effort.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses — Hotmail accounts linked to Ubisoft services
  • Plaintext Passwords — Stored without any encryption or hashing
  • URLs — The login pages and services where credentials were captured

How One Password Becomes Many Breaches

Credential stuffing attacks thrive on password reuse. Attackers take email-password pairs from leaks like this one and systematically test them against banking portals, email providers, shopping sites, and streaming services. Because many users rely on the same password everywhere, a single Ubisoft credential from this dump can cascade into unauthorized access across an entire digital life.

Understanding Infostealer Malware

The credentials in this leak were harvested by infostealer malware — a category of trojans designed to silently extract saved passwords, cookies, and autofill data from web browsers. Common variants such as RedLine, Lumma, and Raccoon spread through phishing emails, fake software downloads, and compromised websites. Once installed, the malware operates in the background, collecting data and transmitting it to the attacker before the victim notices anything unusual.
